Deadpool & Wolverine (2024): Adamantium Antics and Time-Ripping Troubles

🎬 Welcome back to We’re Too Literary! 🎬

It's not every day you hear someone suggest, "Let's cut out part of the Deadpool Corps fight for more Wolverine and Sabertooth action," but that's exactly how Kenny kicks off our dissection of the 2024 cinematic smash-up "Deadpool & Wolverine." The movie delivered a solid mix of action, comedy, and surprisingly sincere moments, but we couldn't help but feel it needed a heftier dose of gravitas.

In this episode, we dive deep into the absurdity of the characters' survival antics, their outlandish costumes, and the slightly underwhelming finale that left Jonathan calling it a "bit of a cop-out." While we were enthralled by the appearance of various Deadpool versions—Lady Poole, Nicepool, Dogpool, and Kidpool—the highlight was undoubtedly Channing Tatum's Gambit, whose Cajun accent had us in stitches. However, we ponder how the film might benefit from increased stakes and more serious storytelling elements, especially if future sequels want to avoid burnout.

We also dissect the convoluted timelines and confusing universe(s) brought on by the involvement of characters like Cassandra Nova and the Time Ripper, plus a few memorable cameos including an unexpected return of Wesley Snipes as Blade. Join us for an entertaining critique, where we'll also touch on how to bolster the narrative’s serious undertones without compromising its chaotically fun vibe.
